Square Website Templates (20+ Themes with Screenshots)

“Does Square have website templates?”

Up until late 2023, the answer was no. You got one basic layout, and if you wanted something polished, you had to wrestle with sections, colors, and blocks yourself.

But things have changed.

Square rolled out brand-new website templates (a.k.a. themes) for Square Online sellers, yet there has been some confusion around them. And I’ve done the legwork for you, I’ve rounded up screenshots of every single template/theme so you can preview them before diving in.

If you’re starting a brand-new Square Online site or considering upgrading to Plus or Premium, this guide is for you.

What Are Square Website Templates (aka Themes)?

Think of them as a head start. Instead of beginning with a blank page, you choose from a set of industry-specific themes that come pre-loaded with:

  • Layouts and pages built for your business type.

  • Conversion-friendly sections (think: menus, galleries, product grids).

  • Design flexibility: colors, fonts, button styles, and layouts are all customizable.

  • Extras like video banners, scrolling text, carousel sliders, and mega menus (on Plus & Premium).

In other words, these templates give you the “professional website” look without days of tinkering.

Who Gets Access to Square Website Templates?

Here’s the fine print (and the frustration for long-time sellers):

  • Only brand-new Square Online accounts have access to the new templates.

  • If your account was created before the release (late 2023), you won’t see them.

  • Even making a “new site” under your old account won’t unlock themes.

So yes, these templates are designed to attract new Square Online sellers. Existing accounts can still fully customize their sites, just without the jump-start of picking a theme.

Why Use Square Website Templates?

  • Faster launch → Skip the blank canvas and start with layouts that make sense.

  • Brand consistency → Match your in-person POS vibe with an online storefront.

  • Flexibility → Customize every detail without touching code.

  • Integration → Everything connects with Square POS, loyalty, gift cards, and marketing.

For small businesses, it’s a seriously good shortcut.

Limitations You Should Know

Before you get too excited, here are the catches:

  • New accounts only (not available for older sellers).

  • Can’t apply a template retroactively to an existing site.

  • Still rolling out, so don’t be shocked if you run into small glitches.

Square Website Templates vs Squarespace Templates

I get this question a lot, so let’s clear it up:

  • Square is built for sellers who want an all-in-one setup: POS, online ordering, loyalty, gift cards, email campaigns, etc, it’s all under one roof. Perfect if sales and transactions are your #1 priority.

  • Squarespace is built for design and storytelling. It’s flexible, visually polished, and strong for content marketing—but it doesn’t have Square’s POS baked in.

So it’s less about “which is better” and more about “what do you need more?”

And yes, we’ve helped clients set up both. For example this restaurant: Tierral del Sol in Portland, Oregon has a beautiful Squarespace website with a link to their Online Ordering page powered by Square.

Final Take

Square website templates are a long-overdue feature, and they make building a professional site so much faster. But don’t forget: they’re only available to brand-new Square Online accounts created after late 2023.

If you’re new, you’re in luck, you’ll have 20+ sleek starting points at your fingertips.
If you’re not, don’t stress, you can still customize everything inside the editor (it just takes a little more patience).
